Beware of Breaches
It’s Halloween - let’s get spooky with a look at some of the scariest breaches of 2017.
- Equifax: The Equifax breach might be the most notable of the year resulting in the compromise of personal information such as credit score, social security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. This breach is being hailed as the largest of all time affecting nearly 143 million Americans.
- Hyatt Hotels: On the 12th of this month, Hyatt Hotels suffered its second credit card breach in the last two years. In this round Hyatt’s cybersecurity team found unauthorized access to credit card information - particularly access to cards that had been manually entered or swiped at specific locations.
- Deloitte failed to utilize two-factor authentication which allowed hackers total access to the company’s email system.
- Arby's: In February, Arby’s announced that payment systems in a number of corporate stores had been affected by malware. No one knows how many stores were affected or how much information was taken.

- St. Mark's Surgery Center: St. Mark’s Surgery Center discovered a ransomware attack that affected 33,877 patients and their health information.
- Pacific Alliance Medical Center: The servers of Pacific Alliance Medical Center were impacted by a ransomware attack that may have affected the patient records of 260,000 people.
- Women's Health Care Group Of Pennsylvania: 260,000 not a scary enough number? The Women’s Health Care Group of Pennsylvania reported that hackers gained access to the personal health information of 300,000 patients.
