There’s a trend in healthcare that started to get a bit of buzz a few years ago. It’s called preventative care, and it’s more than just getting regular checkups, although that’s certainly part of it.
Preventative care is the healthcare industry taking a much more active role in your day-to-day health. For some it’s getting a daily phone call from a provider and asking questions about medication consumption or blood pressure readings. For others it’s a discount on a gym membership through their health insurance.
The idea is to spend a little money preventing a major illness so you don’t have to spend a lot of money treating it, and it makes sense. The healthcare industry has seemed to learn that we humans don’t typically seek treatment for something until it’s either broken or we just can’t take the pain any longer. Unfortunately, that tendency doesn’t apply just to humans and our health.
Preventing a Data Breach
We recently worked with a healthcare information management provider to give the company visibility into the traffic at its main data centers and virtual networks. What prompted this push for visibility? The healthcare industry constantly being under attack.
Over the years the healthcare industry has seen more and more data center breaches. Instead of waiting for a breach to determine if their network security was up to date, this healthcare information processing company wanted to make sure it had the right network architecture to prevent an attack. That’s how APCON got involved.
The healthcare information management provider decided to deploy our Bypass Switch to protect its inline devices, our IntellaStore II to monitor traffic at its remote locations, and our HyperEngine packet processor to help monitor traffic in its main data centers.
